The National Weather Service in San Diego has announced that moderate to locally strong Santa Ana winds will continue to affect the coastal mountain slopes, foothills, and valleys this afternoon. According to the NWS San Diego, these conditions are part of a weather system that will bring periods of weaker Santa Ana winds throughout the week.
Residents in affected areas can expect gusts ranging from 25 to 35 knots, primarily along the coastal slopes, which could spill into the valleys and coastal plains this morning, tapering off by the afternoon. Despite the Santa Ana winds, forecasters anticipate a steady rise in temperatures through Wednesday, with highs as much as 10 to 15 degrees above average for the valleys. "Gusty Santa Ana winds will continue into this afternoon with the stronger gusts near and below the Cajon Pass and along the coastal slopes of the San Diego County mountains to 50 to 60 mph," as reported by the National Weather Service.
Monday's temperature is expected to be pleasant, with coastal areas ranging from 70 to 74 degrees and western valleys, including inland Orange County, between 72 to 75 degrees. The forecast also indicates that the mountain regions between 4,000 ft and 7,000 ft will experience cooler temperatures, ranging from 49 to 59 degrees. Today's sunny conditions in San Diego are expected to reach a high of 74°F, with winds potentially gusting up to 20 mph, per the NWS San Diego.
Looking ahead, high temperatures on Thursday are expected to hold steady, mirroring the warmth of 10 to 15 degrees above the seasonal norm for valley locations observed on Wednesday. The forecast indicates that there isn't much change expected from Friday through Sunday, although humidity levels will be slightly lower inland. Despite the winds, no hazardous marine conditions are anticipated through Friday. While Skywarn activation isn't requested, spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions. The Wind Advisory is in effect until 2 PM PST this afternoon for significant areas of Southern California, extending from Orange County Inland to San Diego County Valleys, as detailed on the NWS website.
