Honolulu police say a domestic argument in the Schofield area turned into a near-fatal attack early Thursday when a 33-year-old woman allegedly poured a boiling liquid on her 25-year-old husband, leaving him with severe burns and fighting for his life.
The confrontation happened at about 1:30 a.m., according to KHON2. Investigators say the dispute escalated inside the couple's home, and the victim bolted to a nearby residence to get help after being scalded. A witness at that neighboring home called 911, and officers arrested the woman at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder in the second degree.
Scene And Response
Hawaii News Now reports that the woman allegedly used boiling bleach in the attack, which left the man with severe burns. Neighbors stepped in to assist the injured husband until emergency crews arrived, then paramedics treated him and took him to a nearby hospital for further care. Police have not publicly released his name.
Investigation And Legal Note
Detectives with the Honolulu Police Department are still piecing together what led up to the violent confrontation and say the suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues, according to KHON2. Officers are asking anyone who might have information related to the incident to contact authorities.
Under Hawaii law, attempted second-degree murder is treated as a serious felony. Hawaii Revised Statutes §706-656 provides that a person convicted of attempted second-degree murder can face life imprisonment with the possibility of parole, although the exact punishment depends on how prosecutors charge the case and what the court ultimately finds.
