
A tragic incident unfolded Thursday morning in Manhattan, Will County, when a school bus carrying 10 students collided with a sedan, resulting in the death of the car's driver. WGN-TV reported that the accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of Manhattan Monee Road and Kankakee Road.
Authorities informed that the sedan was struck head-on by the school bus from District 114, which led to pronounced fatalities at the scene next to the heavily damaged vehicle, covered with a blue tarp. According to FOX 32 Chicago, the collision happened shortly after 8:25 a.m. and resulted in the temporary closure of Manhattan Monee Road between Schoolhouse and Cedar roads.
The ill-fated bus, with 10 children and a driver aboard, sustained considerable front-end damage. All students were evaluated onsite and then transported to local hospitals for further examination as a precautionary measure, as were the efforts for reunification, which district officials are assisting with, as noted by WGN-TV. The names of those involved have not been released to the public.
In the wake of the collision, the Manhattan Fire Protection District found the damaged passenger vehicle and the school bus at the scene. While immediate information about the deceased's identity had not yet been available, officials assured the public that the children did not sustain major injuries, as covered by FOX 32 Chicago.
