
Authorities in Placer County are intensifying efforts to locate a woman reported missing near Colfax, as her whereabouts remain a mystery after she disappeared while hiking with her dog. According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office social media post, the search operation is expansive, spanning land, air, and water, with various teams joining forces in the search efforts for the missing hiker since Friday.
Providing details on the circumstances of the disappearance, the Sheriff’s Office conveyed that the woman may have been missing since around 2:30 p.m. Friday, when she was seen walking the Codfish Falls Trail with her dog. Shortly after, at about 2:45 p.m., the dog was found alone, raising immediate concerns for her safety. Divers, boats, and air resources have been deployed since the initial report of her absence. Teams from CAL FIRE NEU and Auburn State Recreation Area, alongside technology support from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, are contributing resources to aid the nighttime search operations.
This large-scale investigation triggered the discovery of the woman's vehicle near the trail. Adding to the grim findings, deputies also recovered her phone and a dog bowl beside the river, with the search gaining urgency as each minute passes. Her dog, fortunately, has been found and is unharmed. In an area fraught with both natural beauty and potential hazards, the efforts to track down the missing hiker remain steadfast and detailed.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office assures the public that this remains a high-priority and "active and ongoing search". Multiple teams are continuing their exhaustive search operation, stitching together pieces of information to understand the sequence of events that led to the hiker's current unknown status.
