In his statement, Latz drew parallels between past atrocities and recent events in Minneapolis, cautioning against the silence that can give rise to tyranny. Despite the gravity of Holocaust Remembrance Day, he pointed to a resilient Minnesota populace that has taken a stand, as reported by the Minnesota Senate DFL.
"It is ironic that today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. While the road to the Holocaust was long, what we have experienced in Minneapolis in the last several months is similar to Germany in the 1930s," stated Latz, as per the Minnesota Senate DFL. The senator referenced the deaths of two Minnesotans who lost their lives opposing what he described as encroaching tyranny, calling them "martyrs to our way of life, the American experiment perpetuated — and defended when threatened."
Latz's statement highlighted the broad spectrum of victims during the Holocaust, which included 6 million Jews along with Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma/Sinti, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and others targeted by the Nazis. In his poignant remarks on Holocaust Remembrance Day, Latz heralded Minnesota's firm response: “In recent weeks, Minnesota has stood up and definitively declared 'Never Again,'” the Minnesota Senate DFL noted
