A Show Low woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a crash that claimed the life of an Arizona firefighter in October last year. According to information from FOX 10 Phoenix, 21-year-old Kilaya Williamson was arrested on Wednesday by the Navajo County Sheriff's Office, following the fatal collision involving 46-year-old Glenn Collins, who was a firefighter with the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District.
Investigators reportedly found "impairing substances" in Williamson's system, which led to her arrest several months after the incident occurred on Lone Pine Dam Road. Collins was riding his motorcycle to work around 6:45 a.m. when the head-on crash occurred, as stated by Arizona's Family. He was taken to a hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The crash marked a period of mourning for Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District, as it was the third firefighter death within a few weeks.
The loss of Collins has deeply affected the Show Low community. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant to test Williamson’s blood, and with help from the Arizona DPS Crime Lab, confirmed substances that may have impaired her driving. She is suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash.
Less than a month earlier, the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District lost firefighters Brenna Kulikowski and Damon Thompson in a head-on collision. They were struck by a vehicle driven by Angela Bouck, who also died. Williamson, in custody at a Holbrook jail, faces serious charges as the investigation continues.
As for Collins, who dedicated his life to serving the community, he was laid to rest in Show Low with full honors. The tragic events have highlighted not only the risks that firefighters take every day but the devastating consequences of impaired driving. Williamson's arrest has likely brought little solace to a community and a fire district already grappling with the painful memories of losses that came too soon.
