
A sinkhole opened in central Broward County today after a construction vehicle struck a fire hydrant. The incident occurred just after 9:45 a.m. on the 100 block of Northwest 27th Terrace, near Fort Lauderdale in the unincorporated Boulevard Gardens area, Local 10 reported. The collision caused flooding on the roadway, which resulted in a sinkhole approximately six feet wide.
The sinkhole prompted a response from Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies. Utility workers shut off water to the area to contain the damage, and BSO deputies are investigating the collision, according to NBC Miami. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
The affected section of the road has been closed while repairs are underway, with Broward Fire Rescue crews and City of Fort Lauderdale personnel addressing the damage. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the area remains closed during repair efforts. Traffic and local infrastructure impacts are being managed as crews continue their work.
