Deputies say a Far East El Paso hit-and-run did not stay a mystery for long. Domonique Delgado, 33, was arrested Friday and charged with duty on striking an unattended vehicle after investigators say she left the scene of a crash and tried to drive off without leaving her information. Detectives say surveillance video and a flood of tips from social media users helped crack the case.
Deputies were called to the 12900 block of Runway Avenue on Wednesday night, where surveillance cameras captured the incident shortly after 10:51 p.m., according to KTSM. Investigators combed through the footage and began matching vehicle details to narrow in on a suspect.
How Detectives Say They Tracked the Driver
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says detectives combined video surveillance with tips from social media posts to confirm Delgado was the driver, authorities told KVIA. A warrant was issued, and Delgado was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond.
What the Charge Means Under Texas Law
Under Texas law, a driver who hits and damages an unattended vehicle is required to stop and either find the owner or leave a clearly visible written notice with their name, address, and an explanation of what happened. Failing to do so is an offense under the Transportation Code. Penalties range from a Class C to a Class B misdemeanor, depending on the amount of damage, per the Texas Transportation Code §550.024.
Delgado remains in custody at the county detention facility as the case moves through the courts, and officials say detectives are still reviewing evidence from the scene. Local authorities thanked community members whose tips helped identify the vehicle and urged anyone with additional information to contact the sheriff’s office.
