A high-speed rollover crash on Buffalo Drive early Monday killed one person and left another with life-threatening injuries in southwest Las Vegas, authorities said. Emergency crews arrived to find an overturned vehicle and two people who had been thrown from the car, and the wreck quickly backed up traffic as investigators moved in to document the scene.
According to FOX5, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the collision happened around 12:35 a.m. A vehicle traveling south on Buffalo Drive, which police described as speeding, passed Twain Avenue and collided with a car heading west on Twain. The impact caused the southbound vehicle to roll, throwing two occupants from the car. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while people in the Twain Avenue vehicle reported no injuries.
Buffalo Drive Has Seen Serious Crashes This Month
This stretch of Buffalo Drive has already seen another deadly wreck this month. As outlined by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a separate fatal collision at West Russell Road and South Buffalo Drive earlier in January killed a motorcyclist and remains under investigation. Those back-to-back incidents have kept LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section busy as officers try to sort out what is fueling these severe crashes on busy valley arterials.
Traffic Impact and Ongoing Investigation
All lanes along Buffalo Drive and Spring Mountain Road were shut down after the crash, causing delays for early-morning commuters, FOX5 reported. The outlet said it contacted Las Vegas Metro Police for additional information, but officers have not yet released the names of the people involved. The investigation is still underway, according to authorities.
