A Nevada State Police trooper was taken to a hospital Monday morning after another vehicle slammed into a parked patrol car on northbound I-15 near Sahara while the officer was helping a stranded driver. Authorities said the trooper’s injuries were not life-threatening. The crash forced crews to block the left lane, slowing traffic for drivers heading into the city.

Move-over law and roadside safety
State public safety officials regularly remind drivers that Nevada’s move-over and reduced-speed laws are meant to protect officers, tow operators and anyone else working on the shoulder. The Nevada Department of Public Safety points to NRS 484B.607 and NRS 484B.600, which require drivers to move over for emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights when it is safe to do so and to travel at a speed that is reasonable for conditions. The agency warns that ignoring those rules can lead to serious injuries for people working at roadside scenes. The Nevada Department of Public Safety offers detailed guidance on those statutes and related safety tips.
Traffic impacts and what comes next
As of the latest update, the left lane on northbound I-15 in the area remained blocked while crews wrapped up work at the scene, and drivers were told to expect delays and use extra caution. FOX5 Las Vegas described the situation as still developing, and investigators have not yet released additional information about what led to the collision.
