An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last summer in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that on last Friday, detectives took 22-year-old Samuel Chaney into custody in connection with the death of 18-year-old Marcus Thompson.
The shooting occurred on June 11, 2025, when District 6 patrol officers responded to an apartment complex on Cleveland Road and found four gunshot victims. Three survived, but 18-year-old Marcus Thompson died from his injuries. After conducting witness interviews and analyzing evidence, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit identified 22-year-old Samuel Chaney as a suspect. At the time of his arrest, Chaney was already in custody on unrelated charges.
Chaney’s arrest concludes a months-long investigation. Authorities say the apprehension provides a key step toward resolving the case and addressing the questions surrounding the incident. The investigation focused on determining the events that led to the fatality and bringing those responsible into custody.
