A high-speed chase and exchange of gunfire concluded with the arrest of a carjacking suspect and a deputy wounded in Douglas County earlier this week. The events unfolded around 8:30 p.m. on Monday when deputies tracked down 43-year-old Daniel Reynaldo Tolentino, suspected of armed carjacking at a local car wash. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported the victim was unharmed during the carjacking at the intersection of Broadway and Panama. Tolentino, the alleged assailant, was eventually apprehended by law enforcement, including both DCSO deputies and Littleton Police Department (LPD) officers.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, after being spotted in the stolen vehicle, he not only shot at pursuing deputies but also rammed into a deputy's car. This violent encounter resulted in one deputy sustaining a non-fatal wound, possibly caused by a bullet graze.
The encounter didn’t result in any fatalities, although the suspect suffered a gunshot wound to his hand and required hospital treatment at Littleton Adventist, from which he was later released into police custody. An unnamed passenger also in the vehicle was arrested on separate outstanding warrants.
