In Sugar Land, Texas, a dramatic jailbreak occurred yesterday evening when four young suspects, who were in police custody for an aggravated robbery charge, managed to briefly escape from the city jail. The suspects, identified as Edmound Guillory, 19; Desean Dillard, 17; Devontae Simon, 18; and Clayton Johnson, 17, assaulted a jailer before fleeing the facility. The escape unfolded around 4:50 p.m., as reported by the Houston Chronicle, when a jailer went to check on one of the prisoners.
Upon opening the cell door, the jailer was assaulted, which allowed the suspects to quickly free themselves and escape. The Sugar Land Police Department recaptured all four within approximately an hour and a half, according to KHOU.
Earlier that day, the suspects were involved in a robbery at a CVS Pharmacy store on Crabb River Road, where they reportedly assaulted a store employee before taking a bag of cash. The pursuit and initial arrest involved officers from both Sugar Land and Houston Police Departments.
After their recapture yesterday evening, the four are now also facing additional charges that range from escape to attempted murder. The injured jailer, reported in stable condition, was treated at a local hospital. The store employee who had been assaulted during the robbery suffered minor injuries but is expected to be okay. The suspects were transported to Fort Bend County Jail following their brief taste of freedom.
