Saturday morning shoppers at Kohler's Deer Trace Shopping Center got an abrupt timeout when a suspicious device turned up near the cart corral outside the Target store, prompting a brief evacuation and a heavy police response. According to TMJ4, officers were called around 10:06 a.m. after someone reported an object near the Target cart corral on the north end of the complex. That end of the shopping center was cleared while the Milwaukee Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and other specialized teams checked out the item and removed it, with Kohler police shutting down the parking lot during the operation.
Who Responded
Local and federal agencies converged on the scene alongside Kohler officers, including the Milwaukee Police Department Hazardous Device Unit, the FBI Milwaukee Field Office, the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office and the Kohler Fire Department. The Kohler Police Department said the north end of Deer Trace stayed evacuated until the scene was declared safe, and investigators are still gathering information.
Investigation Ongoing
Kohler police say the case remains under investigation and have not released details about what the object was or whether there is any suspect. Per TMJ4, the department referred further questions to the chief of police while officers continue processing the scene and interviewing witnesses. Authorities also asked the public to steer clear of the area while the investigation is active.
Aftermath
An update from TMJ4 did not report any injuries and said evacuations on the north end lasted only until the explosive ordnance team removed the device. Kohler Police are urging anyone with information to contact the department. This story will be updated as officials release more details.
