Early Friday morning, Tampa Fire Rescue teams rushed to battle a severe fire in a residential area on North Jamaica Street. According to a social media post from Tampa Fire Rescue, the first units arrived at the 5000 block to discover a single-story home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, with the blaze already leaping to a nearby property.
The intensity of the inferno prompted a second alarm, calling additional firefighters to the scene. Efforts of the crews included entering the burning homes to conduct thorough searches—a standard procedure to ensure no one is left behind. "One occupant was rescued from a residence and evaluated by paramedics," Tampa Fire Rescue shared. Alongside the human resident, firefighters saved multiple birds and fish, emphasizing that no life is too small in the face of disaster.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within an estimated 50 minutes, an effort that fortunately resulted in no injuries among the fire crews. The cause of the devastating fire remains to be determined.
