A violent altercation erupted this past weekend during a youth baseball tournament in Winter Haven, leading to the arrest of three individuals and injuries to two others. According to WFTV, the confrontation began on Saturday at the Chain of Lakes Complex Baseball Fields when a 38-year-old man, Yosmany Guzman Fernandez, instigated a dispute with a 21-year-old umpire's father who was there to spectate.
The situation escalated when Marcos Aballi, a coach receiving a warning from the umpire, participated in the skirmish, throwing a punch at the young official. Fernandez, the father of a player and allegedly the initiator of the melee, and his 17-year-old son also joined the fray, with the son accused of kicking the umpire. Amid the chaos, law enforcement responded around 6:20 p.m. to find two injured individuals, including the umpire and his father.
According to WESH, both Aballi and Fernandez have been charged with battery on a sports official, while Fernandez faces an additional battery charge. Arrested as well, Fernandez's minor son is charged with battery for his involvement in the altercation.
