Yesterday, a house fire in southeast Houston resulted in a fatality. According to Click2Houston, the fire started around 3:15 a.m. near the intersection of Southmont Street and Crestville Street. A southeast patrol sergeant on duty, along with nearby residents, promptly called 911 after noticing the blaze.
Despite firefighters’ swift efforts to control the blaze, they discovered a deceased individual inside the home after extinguishing the fire. The victim’s identity had not been released at the time of the initial reports. Arson and homicide detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
KHOU also reported on the incident, noting that Houston Fire Department crews responded after a sergeant observed the house engulfed in flames. The fire occurred near the intersection of the South Loop and Mykawa Road, placing the incident within Houston’s south side.
HPD Lt. Ali confirmed that firefighters found one person deceased inside the house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials are working to determine what occurred during the early morning hours. The victim’s identity has not been released as the inquiry continues.
