A tragic head-on collision with a city bus has claimed the life of a truck driver in west Phoenix early Monday morning, as reported by both FOX 10 Phoenix and Arizona's Family. The crash, involving 48-year-old Delfino Mota Jr., occurred near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 4 a.m., police said, and Mota Jr. was pronounced dead at the hospital following his transfer from the scene by firefighters.
Details provided by FOX 10 Phoenix indicate that Mota Jr. attempted to overtake other vehicles using the two-way left turn lane but swerved after coming across another vehicle and subsequently entered the path of oncoming traffic, which led to the fatal collision with the bus. Also, during this incident, no passengers were on board the bus, and the bus driver was unharmed.
The aftermath of the accident resulted in a temporary closure of the surrounding area to facilitate the investigation, with traffic being shut down while authorities worked on-scene. This disruption to the daily flow of vehicles was a stark reminder of the suddenness with which lives can intersect with unforetold tragedy.
According to Arizona's Family, the force of the crash left the front of Mota Jr.'s pickup truck heavily damaged and imparted damage to the side of the Valley Metro bus; however, the informationon the road where the accident occurred which was closed from 45th Avenue to 50th Avenue, was eventually reopened to the stream of life that once more resumed its relentless pace.
