Two officers in Corpus Christi were shot and a third was injured while attempting to apprehend a homicide suspect, according to KIII TV. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. last Friday when police tried to stop a 37-year-old man wanted in connection with an earlier fatal shooting on McArdle Road.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the 3100 block of Port Avenue. The suspect reportedly produced a firearm and opened fire, resulting in two officers being shot and a third injured by debris during the confrontation.
KSAT reports that the incident escalated into a firefight between the suspect and police. Corpus Christi Police Department Chief Mike Markle said the suspect was quickly located but was injured during the confrontation and was taken to a local hospital.
All individuals injured in the incident, including the suspect, are receiving medical care. One female officer remains in critical condition, while the other officers and the suspect are in stable condition. The original homicide on McArdle Road, which led to the confrontation, resulted in one death from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Officer Antonio Contreras. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
