Two people were taken to the hospital following a crash in Commerce Township yesterday morning. ClickOnDetroit reported that the collision occurred around 11 a.m. on West Pontiac Trail near Huntley Drive, when a 24-year-old driver from Dearborn, operating a 2022 Tesla, crossed into the path of a westbound 2010 Honda driven by a 73-year-old Walled Lake resident.
The 73-year-old Walled Lake driver is in critical condition, while the 24-year-old Dearborn driver is in stable condition and expected to survive, according to the ongoing investigation. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders attended the scene, the office noted in a Facebook post. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Authorities have preliminarily ruled out alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed as factors in the crash, CBS Detroit reports. The exact reason the Tesla driver crossed into oncoming traffic is still under investigation.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to lead the investigation into the crash, which remains active. Officials say the cause of the incident is still under review, and additional details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
