Drivers planning to navigate through Orange County should brace for a brief detour next week. The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced a scheduled closure of the exit ramp from I-85 South to I-40 East (Exit 163), set to begin on January 20 at 4 a.m. "Crews are set to close the ramp for drainage work," according to a press release from the NCDOT. Weather permitting, the closure is part of routine maintenance to ensure the longevity and safety of the transportation infrastructure.
The ramp is scheduled to reopen on January 22 at 4 a.m. A signed detour directs drivers to take Exit 161 (U.S. 70 East) to access I-40 East. Officials advise motorists to follow the signs and drive cautiously through the work zone.
The NCDOT advises drivers to plan, stay alert, and follow all posted signs to minimize delays from the temporary ramp closure.
