A 14-year-old girl in Villa Rica is recovering from severe chemical burns sustained over the weekend during a violent incident. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Villa Rica police are investigating the case, which occurred at the Arbors at Villa Rica apartment complex and is linked to a bullying-related assault.
The incident, reportedly linked to ongoing bullying at Villa Rica Middle School, was recorded and the footage has been given to investigators. Aspen Clark, the victim’s mother said that what began as a fistfight escalated, resulting in severe chemical burns. She noted that her daughter had posed no threat to the other girl involved.
WSB-TV reported that the chemical attack followed months of bullying directed at the 14-year-old. During the incident, a Stanley cup containing boiling water and an unknown chemical was thrown at the teen, causing severe skin damage. Aspen Clark told WSB-TV that her daughter was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, the victim experienced online harassment, with her mother sharing related social media messages. One post reportedly stated, “Now you burning,” while another included a song suggesting the aggressors felt victorious. Villa Rica Police Department Sgt. Spencer Crawford stated that authorities are considering charges connected to the initiation and escalation of the incident. “It was liquid that was thrown by a third party in the altercation,” Crawford told WSB-TV.
Aspen Clark has tried multiple times to alert the school about the bullying her daughter endured, but said her efforts were unsuccessful. She visited the school several times, spoke with the counselor, and attempted to meet with the other parents, but was unable to address the situation. Although Clark had taught her daughter self-defense, the actions of the assailant went beyond what could be reasonably defended against. The teenager, now on medication, is recovering from both physical and emotional injuries.
