Highlighted in the Wake County Government's Facebook post, was an exemplary figure, Vielka, who as shelter manager, ran a Southeast Raleigh shelter ensuring that it stood as a bastion of hope; she efficiently coordinated the registration, feeding, medical support, and security operations while maintaining a demeanor that delivered peace to disconcerted residents. "What stayed with me most was the resilience of both the guests and the team. Guest arrived under extremely stressful circumstances, but there was a remarkable level of patience, gratitude and mutual care within the shelter," Vielka recounted in the social media highlight recognizing her dedication and leadership during tumultuous times.
Not only was the effort a display of management and organizational proficiency, but also of human compassion and community, Vielka remembers a visit from members of the County Manager’s leadership team and the Wake County Sheriff's Office as an act that reaffirmed the collective resolve, demonstrating care for the well-being of both shelter residents and the workers on the frontlines. "Their presence meant a great deal not just as leadership oversight, but as a genuine show of care for both the residents and the team working on the ground," she remarked, acknowledging the significance of both logistical and moral support during crises, as per the Wake County Government's post.
