A detached garage on St. Killian Drive in Washington County caught fire on the morning of December 29, 2025. According to the Washington County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office, authorities received a call at 9:10 a.m. about flames in a pile of firewood that threatened the garage structure, prompting a response from local firefighters.
The Sheriff’s Office, led by Lieutenant Ryan Herman, praised the property owners who used a hose to control the flames and remove belongings until firefighters arrived. Multiple departments, including Kohlsville, West Bend, Kewaskum, Allenton, St. Lawrence, Slinger, Theresa, Lomira, and Lifestar Rescue, responded to help contain the blaze.
Thanks to the quick action of firefighters, the garage fire was contained without injuries. The Town of Wayne and Washington County Highway Department helped keep St. Killian Road clear of snow and ice, ensuring emergency vehicles could reach the scene.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office determined the fire was accidental, caused by a stray spark from an outdoor wood stove igniting a pile of firewood. The 60-foot garage sustained significant damage. The homeowner quickly responded with a garden hose, called 911, and no Red Cross assistance was needed.
