Café Madeleine has slipped a little slice of Paris into one of San Diego’s most buttoned-up addresses. The longtime neighborhood favorite opened a Parisian-style kiosk Monday inside the County Administration Building at Waterfront Park, giving downtown workers, courthouse visitors and park regulars a new grab-and-go stop for coffee and pastries. The counter-service stand leans into classic French bakes and Illy espresso, with early taste tests calling out a croissant French toast and a compact but satisfying breakfast croissant sandwich.
According to Axios San Diego, the Parisian-styled kiosk serves coffee, tea and espresso drinks alongside pastries, baguette sandwiches and other grab-and-go items. Axios also highlighted an iced lavender mint latte, fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice and non-alcoholic prosecco for courthouse marriage celebrations among the offerings. Founder Christine Perez told Axios the new space will be an opportunity to try out new menu items.
Where it sits and who it serves
On its site, Café Madeleine lists the new San Diego County location as a civic outpost inside the county building at Waterfront Park, with hours geared toward weekday crowds. The site also lists the café’s other San Diego addresses and menus for each location, confirming that the kiosk follows the shop’s decade-plus run in South Park and North Park. The Waterfront Park counter is positioned for people moving between offices, courtrooms and the park, with service built around quick weekday stops.
From Barrio Logan to the county center
Madeleine expanded into Barrio Logan in 2025 with a Latin and French inspired menu that includes a raja crepe filled with poblano peppers, elote and queso fresco, according to San Diego Magazine. That outpost was part of owner Christine Perez’s recent push to experiment with new dishes and take the brand beyond neighborhood cafés.
What to order
The croissant French toast has been singled out as a best bite, served either with fresh berries, whipped cream and granola or with Nutella and bananas, per Axios San Diego. The breakfast croissant sandwich - egg, bacon, tomato and arugula - was described as delightful, if on the smaller side. To drink, Axios points to the iced lavender mint latte, while purists can stick with a classic Illy espresso for a quick downtown pick-me-up.
Quick takeaway for downtown
With short hours designed around commuter and courthouse rhythms, the kiosk gives downtown a one-stop spot for coffee and pastries during weekday mornings and early afternoons. The café’s locations page lists the County Center outpost among its four San Diego spots and shows hours that target weekday foot traffic, and the small format makes it well suited for quick meetings or grabbing something to go.
