Webster Groves has initiated a street cleaning program that employs a Pelican broom sweeper to keep its streets and curbs free from debris. In a recent social media post, the City of Webster Groves highlighted this initiative as a countermeasure to prevent the clogging of storm drains during heavy rainfall, one that simultaneously enhances the aesthetic appeal of its neighborhoods.
It's a matter of practicality, the accumulation of leaves, trash, and sediment not only pose a threat of localized flooding, but also detract from the visual charm of residential areas. Maintaining clean streets has become more than an issue of pride, it's a civic necessity. In a statement released by the City of Webster Groves, Public Works Supervisor Ronald Dade explained the mechanics of this cleaning system. "The sweep system with hydraulically driven brooms that collect leaves from the street gutter," he described.
The city says the use of the Pelican broom sweeper is part of its regular maintenance program to address everyday urban needs. Officials say the equipment supports ongoing efforts to maintain public spaces and protect the environment.
