A customer at a Dunkin' Donuts in Lincoln Park was the victim of a stabbing incident this past Tuesday. According to WXYZ, the attack occurred around 10:30 a.m., leaving the woman with multiple stab wounds. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital, and authorities report she remains in stable condition.
The assailant was apprehended a few blocks from the Dunkin' Donuts after an employee dialed 9-1-1. Police have taken the suspect into custody, and while the motive remains elusive, it is suspected to have been a random attack. The FOX 2 Detroit interview with the police clarified that the suspect had previously been known to store employees for attempting to steal tips off the counter.
Details about the suspect's identity are still forthcoming as he awaits arraignment. Fellow customer Dale Nickrand expressed his shock about the incident to WXYZ, recounting the sudden chaos. “I’m like what’s going on? Five, six cop cars. I peeked inside and saw them tending to someone on the floor it looked like," said Nickrand.
For now, the Lincoln Park Police have yet to indicate when charges are expected to be filed. Video evidence of the crime was not captured, as a worker informed MLive that the store's surveillance cameras did not record the assault. Locals and regulars to the shop seem to be unsettled by the violent outburst in an otherwise routine setting, with Shawn, another customer, remarking to WXYZ, “Little close to home. Crazy something like that would happen here."
