Recent spikes in federal immigration enforcement in Woodbury have sparked a wave of concern and questions among community members. In response, the city has launched a FAQ page to keep residents informed about where things stand, and Woodbury officials have been clear about their stance – their priority is the safety and inclusivity of all who call their city home.
In a concerted effort to maintain transparency, the city confirms that the Woodbury Public Safety Department does not enforce federal immigration laws, nor have they been asked to assist with such matters by federal agencies, as reported by the City of Woodbury. Despite the presence of ICE and CBP in the area, local police are not typically privy to federal actions before they occur.
Furthermore, in addressing community concerns about the potential establishment of an ICE detention center, Woodbury Mayor Anne Burt has confirmed, "the property located at 11435 Hudson Road is not being sold or leased to the federal government or agents acting on their behalf," the City of Woodbury stated. Mayor Burt also clarified that the site wouldn't become an ICE facility, soothing the nerves of those opposed to such a development. Residents needing assistance related to immigration law have access to resources, such as the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota and The Advocates for Human Rights.
