
On Tuesday morning in St. Johns County, an 11-year-old Mill Creek Academy student was found in possession of a loaded handgun on a school bus. According to St. Johns Citizen, the student did not make any threats, and officials confirmed that other students and staff were not in danger.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly, securing the firearm when the student arrived at the World Golf Village campus. The incident prompted immediate coordination among law enforcement, school officials, and mental health personnel. Officials confirmed that safety measures were in place and shared the information via a social media post obtained by St. Johns Citizen.
As the investigation continued, St. Johns County Schools confirmed that the students who reported the incident did so promptly. The district plans to enforce a multi-day suspension for the student involved while reviewing whether additional disciplinary measures are necessary.
Mill Creek Academy, which serves approximately 2,000 K-8 students, is addressing concerns about school safety and youth access to firearms. The district has initiated a review of the incident and is providing additional support through social services for students who may need it. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, and while the origin of the firearm remains under review, authorities have confirmed that it was loaded and that the investigation is ongoing, as per News4Jax.
