
Following an attempted robbery that occurred in late December last year, the Metropolitan Police Department has reported the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect, McKinley McClain, from Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident took place in the 1600 block of W Street, Southeast, where the victim aimed to purchase shoes but was confronted by two suspects, one wielding two firearms. In an effort to escape, the victim faced assault, the assailant resorting to use of a firearm to subdue but failing to seize the victim's vehicle keys, leading to the victim's eventual escape and subsequent report to the authorities, according to a statement released by MPD.
MPD's recent announcement confirms McClain was apprehended on Monday, following the issuance of a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, and he now faces charges of Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery While Armed (Gun), the assault on the victim, during the purchase encounter resulted in a violent attempt by the suspects to overpower and rob, which the MPD has been investigating since the attack. This case is still active and under the scrutiny of the Metropolitan Police Department, urging that any individual with information related to the incident should contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or text their tip to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, while reminding that there exists a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a violent crime within the district.
