A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in Benton Harbor early Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement, according to a report from FOX 17. The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety (BHDPS) received calls of shots fired in the vicinity of Columbus Avenue, south of E. Britain Avenue, where the victim was subsequently discovered.
Emergency responders took the man to a hospital, where he later died. BHDPS has not released his identity pending notification of next of kin. The incident is under investigation by multiple agencies, including the FBI Violent Crime Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Authorities have not identified a suspect but say there is no ongoing threat to the public and are asking for community assistance.
