Anne Arundel County law enforcement officials have apprehended Nelson Alexander Martinez, 51, in relation to an armed robbery involving a machete and handgun in Pasadena. As reported by Fox Baltimore, on Monday afternoon, Martinez allegedly forced a homeowner to submit to his demands for money after brandishing the weapons. The homeowner, currently engaged in home renovations, was accosted and later hospitalized for his injuries, though they were not life-threatening.
According to the authorities, the homeowner, a 45-year-old male, was initially approached by Martinez, who requested to see inside the man's home. Once inside, in the basement the suspect revealed a machete and a handgun, stole the individual's phone, and bank card, and after striking the homeowner, Martinez fled the scene in a black vehicle. After thorough investigation, Martinez was detained without further incident in Montgomery County just days later, on February 12, CBS News Baltimore reported.
This event mirrors a previous incident in Anne Arundel County in 2023 involving an attempted robbery through a dating app rendezvous gone wrong. Then, suspects who had requested a meeting under the guise of a date robbed a victim in their home at gunpoint.
Statistical data from the Maryland State Police indicates a near 30% drop in recorded robberies, from 395 in 2024 down to 234 in 2025, and a slight decrease in stolen property cases from 150 to 146 during the same period. The year 2023 documented 274 robberies and 38 stolen property cases. These numbers suggest a fluctuating but noteworthy trend in property-related offenses within the county.
