A weekend shooting in the Fairfield Glade area sent one person to the hospital and landed a 78-year-old Crossville man in the Cumberland County Jail, according to state and local authorities.

In a Facebook update, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said special agents, working with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Fairfield Glade Police Department, opened an investigation on Sunday at the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. Agents obtained an arrest warrant charging a Crossville resident with aggravated assault. The bureau did not release additional details about the victim’s condition in that post.

Local outlet WVLT later identified the suspect as 78-year-old Glenn Kay of Crossville and reported that agents arrested him on Sunday. According to WVLT, Kay was booked into the Cumberland County Jail on a $15,000 bond and faces one count of aggravated assault.

The shooting was reported in the 100 block of Fairhaven Drive in the Fairfield Glade area, WDEF noted. WDEF also reported that the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the victim’s condition as the investigation continues.

Investigation and Legal Status

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the case opened at the request of the 13th Judicial District attorney, and agents are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The bureau emphasized that the charges are allegations at this stage and that an arrest does not prove guilt.

Fairfield Glade Context

Fairfield Glade, known as a resort community, has faced scrutiny over gun violence before. In 2022, a separate shooting there left one person dead and two others wounded, a case that also brought in TBI agents and local deputies, WSMV reported. Residents told reporters at the time they were rattled by the incident in their typically quiet community.

Prosecutors in the 13th Judicial District will review the evidence before any formal indictment, and officials have not announced a court date. Authorities have not released additional information about the victim or a possible motive, according to WVLT.
