Early Monday traffic on Interstate 4 Eastbound in Volusia County came to a halt when a vehicle caught fire near mile marker 117 in DeLand. As reported by WFTV. all lanes were blocked as emergency crews arrived to combat the flames and manage the scene. By 11:17 a.m., despite the efforts of first responders, the congestion extended nearly five miles back to mile marker 112.
According to details provided by WESH, Road Rangers were deployed to assist with traffic control and ensure the safety, of those passing the site of the incident. Motorists have been advised to adhere to "Move Over" laws or to slow their speed when approaching the location where crews are actively working.
The cause of the vehicle fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, the lengthy delays continue to affect travelers headed eastbound, with tailbacks indicating the scale of disruption this incident has caused.
