In a suburb of Massachusetts, an intense situation unfolded at the Coachman’s Ridge apartment complex yesterday. Andover Police, alongside NEMLEC SWAT, engaged in a delicate operation as they responded to reports of a female experiencing a mental health crisis. The situation began when a concerned individual approached the Andover Police Department with information that his live-in girlfriend was in distress and that firearms were known to be inside their shared residence, according to a social media post by the Andover Police Department.
Efforts to peacefully resolve the situation included establishing direct communication with the woman through telephone. A Crisis Negotiator worked tirelessly for more than two hours, striving to persuade her to exit the apartment and accept mental health services. Despite the enduring negotiation, the woman remained inside, resulting in the SWAT team's decision to assist with a forced entry. As detailed in the Andover Police Department’s statement, their aim was to ensure the safety of the female in question, the officers involved, and the residents nearby.
The enforced entry occurred at roughly 5:10 pm, culminating in the woman being safely located and transported to a local hospital for the treatment she required. Officials have confirmed that the incident, secured within the bounds of the apartment, resulted in no injuries to any parties.
Commendations for the successful and nonviolent resolution were extended to all assisting agencies. "We would like to thank our colleagues from NEMLEC SWAT, as well as the North Andover Police, Massachusetts State Police, and Andover Fire Rescue for their assistance with this call," as per the Andover Police Department.
