Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann has announced the immediate removal of Police Chief Ed Jackson from his command, citing "differing approaches in management" as the reason for the shake-up. As reported by FOX Baltimore, Littmann had requested Jackson's resignation last week. When Jackson chose not to resign, the Mayor proceeded with the dismissal.
Jackson, who has been at the helm of the Annapolis Police Department since August 2019, was lauded by the Mayor for his efforts in diversifying the police force and his commitment to reentry and cold case investigations. "I thank Chief Jackson for his service to our residents," Mayor Littmann said, "I admire and respect his work on diversifying the force and command staff and his work on reentry and cold case investigations. These efforts are important to our community, and I want to see these initiatives continue," according to a statement, reported by WBALTV.
In the interim, Capt. Amy Miguez has been appointed as the acting chief. A veteran with 25 years of service in the department, Miguez brings experience from various roles, including patrol, investigations, community outreach, and public information. In her statement regarding the transition of power, Miguez attributed her career advancement to the culture cultivated under Jackson's leadership. "Chief Jackson's leadership opened doors at the Annapolis Police Department and strengthened a culture that values equity and opportunity," Miguez stated, as detailed by FOX Baltimore. "His support for a workforce that reflects the community we serve made it possible for leaders like me to step forward. I am deeply grateful for his mentorship and for the foundation he built, and I am honored to continue my service to our residents."
Mayor Littmann has expressed confidence in Miguez's ability to lead the department during the transition. "I have full confidence in Acting Chief Miguez," Littmann remarked, asserting that public safety remains a top priority for the administration.
