Gordon Square is about to get a fresh caffeine jolt. Atmos Coffee, a new small-batch roastery and café from owner Zach Burkhart, is gearing up to open in a roomy double storefront at 5509 Detroit Ave, aiming to serve as a neighborhood third space where locals can meet, work, and watch beans get roasted on site. The shop is planning a tight signature drink menu, plus grab-and-go snacks and made-to-order Belgian waffles.
Where It Will Land
The café’s address is listed as 5509 Detroit Ave on its official site, which is currently inviting neighbors to join a launch waitlist, according to Atmos Coffee. The site highlights Atmos’s focus on its roastery operations and a simple, sustainability-minded approach to coffee production, and it links out to the shop’s Instagram and TikTok accounts for opening updates.
On-Site Roasting And The Machine
As Douglas Trattner reports for Cleveland Scene, Burkhart plans to roast beans in-house using a Bellwether Shop Roaster and will start with a single blend called Red Shift, a mix of Ethiopian and Brazilian beans. “We want to be a space that people can come to and feel really welcome and comfortable, whether you’re meeting somebody or working independently,” Burkhart told Cleveland Scene. The Shop Roaster is described on Bellwether Coffee’s product page as an all-electric, ventless, automatic machine designed for in-café small-batch roasting, which fits with Atmos’s sustainability pitch. Once things are up and running, the café plans to be open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Gordon Square Context
The arrival of Atmos Coffee adds to the long-running work to anchor the Gordon Square Arts District with theaters, galleries, and independent retail, an effort that the Cleveland Foundation says has driven significant neighborhood investment. For people living nearby, it is one more locally focused spot on a corridor that has leaned on arts and small businesses to build a walkable, street-level scene.
How To Follow The Opening
Those who want to get in early can join the shop’s waitlist and find updates on the official site, according to Atmos Coffee. The team is expected to announce a soft-opening date on its social channels once everything is locked in.
