Last Thursday, local residents of Auburn experienced a fire emergency as the Auburn Fire Department and neighboring crews sprang into action to combat a structure fire on Washington Street, near Wing Road. According to a social media post from the Auburn Fire Department, the call came in at around 9:43 PM, prompting a swift response from the firefighters. When the teams arrived, they were met with the sight of flames erupting through the residence's roof.
The coordinated effort by Auburn firefighters, joined by teams from Bainbridge, Burton, Newbury, Russell, and Troy, ensured that the blaze was quickly extinguished. "A 360 was completed and Auburn fire crews along with auto aid departments, (Bainbridge, Burton, Newbury, Russell and Troy), quickly exstinguished the fire and checked for any extention," stated the Assistant Chief of the Auburn Fire Department, Vincent Valerio, in the social media post. The post further credited the firefighters' diligent work for limiting the fire damage after a thorough search confirmed no additional areas of combustion.
Investigations into the fire's cause revealed that it originated from the fireplace piping that extended into the attic, a reminder of the hidden dangers that can reside within the comfort of one's home. The crews performed an overhaul to ensure the safety of the structure and to prevent any potential resurgence of the fire.
Gratitude was expressed by the fire department towards the hard work of both the Auburn and auto aid crews in handling the emergency. "Thanks again to the hard work of Auburn Fire and auto aid crews the fire damage was limited," the Auburn Fire Department social media post read. It was a fortunate outcome as no injuries were reported. The collective response highlighted the value of inter-departmental cooperation and community resilience in the face of disaster.
