
Austin police have released the name of the pedestrian struck and killed near the city’s airport on Monday, identifying the victim as 75-year-old Juan Santos Castro. He was hit in the northbound lanes of the 1100 block of Bastrop Highway and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Officers were called to the crash at about 2:15 p.m., and Austin-Travis County EMS crews attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Castro was later pronounced dead, according to KEYE. The collision happened southeast of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and remains under investigation by Austin police.
Victim Identified
Funeral listings confirm Castro’s name and age and show services set for mid-February. Those notices describe him as a longtime Austin resident, according to Echovita. The family has not issued a public statement through local news outlets.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene, is cooperating with investigators, and does not appear to have been impaired, according to KEYE. The crash is being handled by the Austin Police Department’s vehicular homicide unit.
