A planned SWAT response in a Pflugerville neighborhood was abruptly called off, with Austin police canceling both the tactical deployment and a scheduled media briefing on Goshawk Drive.
Officers had urged drivers and nearby residents to be cautious in the 14600 block while they worked the scene, but by the time of the latest update authorities had not publicly explained what triggered the initial callout.
The shift in plans was announced in a post on X from the Austin Police Department. Earlier, police had advised that SWAT units were responding to a barricaded subject in the same 14600 block of Goshawk Drive. In the follow up message, officials said the SWAT activation, the public information officer response and the media availability were all canceled, and they again asked motorists to use caution in the area.
Where the call came in
The 14600 block of Goshawk Drive is in the Landings at Wells Branch neighborhood of Pflugerville, just north of Austin. Online real estate listings place homes in the 14600 range of Goshawk Drive, including 14615 Goshawk Drive in the 78660 ZIP code, as shown on Redfin.
What a 'barricaded subject' call usually involves
Police use the term "barricaded subject" for someone who has taken up a defensive position inside a building, vehicle or similar location and is refusing to obey officers' commands. These incidents are treated as potentially life threatening, and standard tactics often include setting up inner and outer perimeters, bringing in trained negotiators and focusing on de escalation and preserving life. For an overview of law enforcement training and tactical guidance on these types of incidents, see Police1.
Traffic, safety and what comes next
Drivers in the area were advised to expect police activity and possible detours near the scene until officers clear out and more information is released. Anyone who believes they witnessed something connected to the incident is encouraged to call 911 for emergencies or contact the local non emergency line, and to monitor official law enforcement channels for future updates.
