Two separate overnight shootings on Cleveland’s East Side left one man seriously hurt and another critically wounded, turning a late Monday night into a tense, siren-filled stretch for nearby residents and first responders.
Two scenes, hours apart
The first shooting was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday near E. 71st Street and Indiana Avenue in the Slavic Village neighborhood. Emergency crews found a man with a gunshot wound, and Cleveland EMS took him to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition. The city’s Special Investigation Unit responded to that scene, according to Cleveland19 News.
Roughly two and a half hours later, around 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to another shooting near E. 84th Street and Quincy Avenue in Fairfax. There, a 35-year-old man was found critically injured and taken to the University Hospitals, authorities said.
Neighborhoods already on edge
Both Slavic Village and Fairfax sit on Cleveland’s east side and have been wrestling with a string of violent incidents that have left residents shaken and detectives working overtime. Detectives hunting for answers
Police and investigators spent the overnight hours at both scenes, collecting shell casings and other evidence while speaking with neighbors who had been jolted awake by gunfire and flashing lights. The Special Investigation Unit’s involvement in the Slavic Village shooting was noted on scene.
Cleveland19 News reports it has requested additional information from the Cleveland Division of Police, which had not released any suspect details at the time of its report.
