A quiet Cary apartment complex turned into a spectacle late Sunday when officers battered their way into a unit on Wisdom Drive while responding to reports of a person barricaded inside. Police used a battering ram to breach the door as they tried to serve an arrest warrant out of nearby Holly Springs, and neighbors described a heavy law enforcement presence that drew onlookers as officers moved in to secure the building.
Police say they were serving a Holly Springs warrant
According to WRAL, the WRAL Breaking News Tracker was rolling as Cary officers hit the Wisdom Drive apartment with a battering ram while attempting to serve an arrest warrant out of Holly Springs. In an update posted Feb. 23, 2026, the outlet reported that a Cary police spokesperson confirmed officers were trying to serve the warrant and that crews had been on the scene.
“WRAL News has reached out to authorities in Cary and Holly Springs for more information,” the station wrote. As of that update, it was not clear whether anyone inside the apartment had been arrested or injured. WRAL described the situation as developing and said it would update coverage once officials respond.
How forced entries are handled
North Carolina law allows officers to force entry to execute a warrant after they announce their identity and purpose, or when announcing would create a danger to life or allow destruction of evidence, according to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 15A‑251. Agencies across the Triangle have occasionally used more aggressive tactics during barricade responses. Wake Forest police deployed a flash-bang during an apartment standoff earlier this month, according to Officer.com, and hours-long standoffs have led to arrests in other Wake County cases, according to Associated Press-syndicated reporting.
Cary police and Holly Springs officials had not posted additional details by early Monday. News outlets plan to update coverage when agencies release formal statements. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact local law enforcement through official channels.
