
A quiet Monday night in Bedford-Stuyvesant turned violent when a 22-year-old man was shot by a stranger while walking home, police said. The victim was hit in the right arm in front of an apartment building on MacDonough Street near Howard Avenue at about 10 p.m. He was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

According to the New York Post, officers said the man did not know the shooter. Investigators are still working to determine whether he was specifically targeted or simply an innocent bystander caught in an unprovoked burst of violence. The Bed-Stuy shooting comes just a week after gunfire in nearby Ridgewood left a 23-year-old woman wounded. Four people, including a 23-year-old man and three 17-year-old boys, were arrested in that case, according to Patch. Authorities in the Ridgewood incident charged the suspects with attempted murder and weapons offenses, the outlet reported.

NYPD detectives from Brooklyn's 81st Precinct are canvassing the neighborhood and following leads while the investigation remains active, officials told the New York Post. Police have not released a suspect description and have not announced a possible motive as they continue to piece together what led to the late-night shooting.
