New Orleans has landed a marquee booking for its dining scene: the North America's 50 Best Restaurants awards will roll into town on May 28, 2026, bringing chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality heavyweights to the city for a live ceremony. The news drops into an already packed food calendar, with the city also set to host continental qualifiers for the Bocuse d'Or and the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie this July at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

The awards were announced this week. According to NOLA.com, North America's 50 Best, the regional offshoot of the 50 Best brand owned by William Reed, chose New Orleans as its 2026 host city in partnership with New Orleans & Company. A 50 Best representative told the outlet that the exact venue for the May 28 ceremony is still being finalized.

Big culinary competitions coming in July

The city's calendar already includes two heavyweight international contests. The Americas selections of the Bocuse d'Or and the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie are scheduled for July 25–26 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and will run alongside the Louisiana Restaurant Association's annual LRA Showcase, according to the Bocuse d'Or. The Louisiana Restaurant Association has said the qualifiers will pull in teams, suppliers and trade visitors to downtown New Orleans for two full days of competition and industry programming.

Where the 50 Best fits

North America's 50 Best launched its first regional list in Las Vegas in 2025, when Atomix in New York was named the inaugural Best Restaurant in North America, per PR Newswire. The awards are run by the 50 Best brand under William Reed and are built around a live countdown and a programme of events designed to spur culinary tourism. PR Newswire also carries the full 2025 list and ceremony coverage.

What local leaders say

Local tourism and hospitality leaders are treating the booking as a timely boost for the city's dining economy. "Hosting the new event is part of a larger effort to amplify our culinary scene," Walt Leger III said in comments reported by NOLA.com, adding that the city hopes to "raise the profile of New Orleans as a global travel destination and a culinary center of excellence." New Orleans & Company partnered with 50 Best to bring the awards to town, the tourism office confirmed.

Why it matters for restaurants and tourism

High-profile food events like these typically fill hotel rooms, spotlight local suppliers and generate fresh press for restaurants already on international radars. New Orleans' tourism agency has been pushing a "Built to Host" strategy and a crowded 2026 calendar that includes Sail250 and other major conventions. The Michelin Guide's recent expansion to the American South and its 2025 ratings have also steered new attention toward the city's kitchens, according to New Orleans & Company.

Organizers have not yet announced venue or ticketing details for the May awards. Both 50 Best and local partners say they will share more logistical information in the weeks ahead. For now, the May 28 awards and the July 25–26 continental qualifiers give New Orleans an unusually concentrated run of global culinary spotlight as the summer season approaches.
