Blanco Cocina + Cantina has quietly slipped out of The Galleria, leaving its Houston fans to discover the news the old-fashioned way: by walking up to a dark storefront and an empty dining room. The Arizona-born Mexican concept, which first landed at the mall in 2018 as Blanco Tacos & Tequila, appears to have served its last margarita in Houston.
The closure was first spotted by CultureMap Houston, which noted that the Galleria location has disappeared from Fox Restaurant Concepts' list of active restaurants. Local business listings also tell the same story, with MapQuest marking the spot as "Permanently closed." Phone calls to the restaurant went unanswered and the dining room sat empty.
What diners used to find on the menu
Before the plug was pulled, Blanco's Houston page promoted a lineup built for lingering over drinks and snacks. The menu spotlighted tacos, shareable plates and larger entrées, including crispy sweet potato tacos, a green-chile smash burger and a short-rib machaca burrito, all backed by tequila flights and a full bar program, according to the restaurant's own site. The Blanco Cocina + Cantina Houston listing also carried hours and group-dining details for the Galleria location before the page went offline.
Another empty space in a busy mall
Blanco's quiet exit is not an isolated case. The Galleria has been cycling through tenants as sit-down chains rethink their mall strategies. Community Impact reported that Fig & Olive closed its Galleria location in April 2025, and Eater Houston covered Shake Shack's decision to shut down its Galleria outpost in 2024. Together, those departures highlight a shifting landscape as shoppers and diners look for different kinds of mall dining experiences.

Even as restaurants move out, Galleria leadership is talking up what is coming next. Mall management told CultureMap Houston that "the Galleria looks forward to upcoming announcements of several exciting updates to our dining options." In other words, officials are trying to balance a wave of exits with new retail and restaurant projects waiting in the wings.
What it means for Fox Restaurant Concepts
Blanco is part of Phoenix-based Fox Restaurant Concepts, which still runs other brands in the region and continues to list a Houston presence on its site. In a quirk of online housekeeping, Fox Restaurant Concepts still promotes group-dining information for a Houston Blanco location even as local directories label the Galleria spot as closed.
