A late-morning CTA Blue Line ride in the Loop turned violent when a group of eight people allegedly beat and robbed a rider near the Jackson station, and Chicago police say they are now combing the city for the attackers.

The Feb. 13 assault and robbery happened around 11:25 a.m. aboard a train in the 300 block of South Dearborn, according to authorities. Two weeks later, investigators released surveillance images showing eight suspected attackers and are asking anyone who recognizes them to speak up.

Police say the group consisted of five men and three women who were seen leaving the train in the Loop after the incident. Detectives also circulated clothing descriptions in an effort to jog riders' memories.

According to FOX 32 Chicago, the suspects include a man wearing a gray jacket over a navy hooded sweater with a white mask, a man in a white sweater and white pants, a man in a gray knit hat and black mask, and women dressed in gray hoodies, black leggings, and sporting distinctive colored hair or scarves. Police say the images were pulled from surveillance cameras and are being used to help identify the group.

What Police Released And How To Help

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the Feb. 13 attack to contact Public Transportation Detectives and to be ready with details like the train car number and the direction of travel when reporting incidents.

CBS Chicago reports that tips can be directed to Public Transportation Detectives at 312-745-4447. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at CPDTIP.com using the reference number RD JK148561.

For riders who are not sure where to start, the Chicago Police Department maintains a list of hotlines and tip options that outlines the different ways information can be shared with detectives.

CTA Security And How Cases Are Tracked

The CTA says it works closely with CPD to track suspects across the transit system and beyond, leaning heavily on an extensive camera network and station intercoms to capture and relay information in real time.

According to the CTA, the system is covered by thousands of cameras that feed into a Strategic Decision Support Center, which can give detectives near-real-time access to footage as an investigation unfolds.

Recent local reporting has highlighted how this kind of coordination can pay off quickly. In one February incident on the Green Line, a robbery investigation led to three people being taken into custody within about 30 minutes, as reported in a Green Line stickup case.

Anyone who believes they saw the Feb. 13 Blue Line attack or recognizes any of the people in the released stills is urged to call detectives or submit an online tip referencing RD JK148561. Both the Chicago Police Department and the CTA are asking riders to preserve any video they may have from trains or platforms and to report information promptly to help move the investigation forward.
