A late-night house fire in Jacksonville's Springfield neighborhood turned deadly Friday, with one person discovered dead inside the home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Fire crews knocked down the blaze and, once the scene was safe to enter, located an individual inside the structure. Detectives have opened an active investigation into what happened.
JSO said patrol officers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. to the 1600 block of Ionia Street to assist Jacksonville Fire and Rescue. After firefighters extinguished the flames, an individual was found deceased inside the building. Detectives with JSO’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and are working the case alongside the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
