Bowie police are asking for the public's help to put a name to the face of a man they say is wanted in connection with an assault inside the Starbucks at Bowie Town Center. Investigators report the attack happened on February 2 at about 5:30 p.m., and on Wednesday the department released an image of the person they want to identify. The appeal comes roughly two weeks after the reported incident.
According to WJLA, police are treating the case as a second-degree assault and say the incident took place inside the Starbucks at 3924 Town Center Boulevard. The outlet reports that Bowie police released images of the man they are looking for and urged anyone who recognizes him to contact investigators.
How to contact police
As outlined by the Bowie Police Department, anyone with information is asked to call Detective Zittle #0080 in the Criminal Investigations Section at 240-544-5753 or use the anonymous tip line at 240-544-5770. The department's non-emergency number is 240-544-5700, and tips may be submitted anonymously through the tip line.
Where it happened
The Starbucks at 3924 Town Center Boulevard is located in the Bowie Town Center shopping area, a cluster of retail and restaurants east of Allen Pond Park. Business listings confirm that address for the Bowie Town Center store, according to the local Chamber of Commerce.
Why police are asking now
Coverage of the police appeal ran on Feb. 18, bringing renewed attention to the two-week-old case, according to WJLA. Police are asking residents and business owners to review any relevant video footage and to call investigators if they recognize the individual, rather than approaching him themselves.
Anyone who recognizes the person in the released image is urged to contact Detective Zittle or the anonymous tip line with any information. For safety, police say residents should not confront the suspect and should allow investigators to handle any possible encounters.
