Washington D.C. residents can expect a sunny start today with temperatures peaking at a chilly 33 degrees, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service. The morning's brisk northwest winds of 9 to 13 mph are set to accompany the clear skies, making the wind chill linger around 8 degrees. The forecast, available on the NWS website, also warns of gusts reaching up to 22 mph.
As the day progresses into night, the NWS anticipates a drop in temperature to around 17 degrees with partly cloudy conditions. Subtle shifts in the wind are expected to bring lighter southwest breezes. Those hoping for continued fair weather might be in for a slight change as there's a chance of snow after 1pm tomorrow. The chance for precipitation stands at 20% during the day while the night forecasts a 60% likelihood of snow, possibly accumulating to less than a half inch.
Midweek projections suggest that Wednesday will see a return to partly sunny skies with a high of 35 degrees, thanks in part to the northwest wind around 10 mph. The evening will cool down once more to a low near 17, before Thursday ushers in sunny skies once again with an anticipated high near 30 degrees.
Even with the cold snap, the latter part of the week might bring more snow according to the NWS. Friday's forecast sees a 30% chance of snow under mostly cloudy conditions, with a high near 36. But temperatures are expected to plummet yet again in the evening, dropping to around 14 degrees. The weekend promises crisper air, particularly on Saturday with a high near 23 and dropping further into Saturday night, to a low around 10 degrees. Sunday caps the week with partly sunny conditions and a slight temperature climb to 26 degrees.
