Honolulu spends Thursday in classic trade-wind mode: warm, breezy and a little unruly. Most neighborhoods are topping out near 80°F while east trade winds gust into the upper 20s. Skies stay mostly cloudy, and isolated rain showers will continue to favor windward and mauka areas through the afternoon, bringing brief, localized downpours. Beachgoers and small-boat operators should stay alert for rough east-facing surf and choppy seas into the evening.
Afternoon Winds and Marine Alerts
The Wind Advisory that had been in effect earlier this week was cancelled Thursday morning as winds fell below advisory thresholds, but east winds will still blow 15–21 mph with gusts up to about 29 mph, which is strong enough to make steering tough for large vehicles on exposed roads. High Surf Advisories for east-facing shores and a Small Craft Advisory for all coastal waters remain posted through 6 PM HST Thursday, according to NWS Honolulu.
Tonight and the Weekend
Forecasts show a wetter pattern building Friday into the weekend as additional moisture spreads over the islands, raising the odds for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, some of which could produce brief heavy downpours and localized flooding in windward and higher-terrain spots. Keep that in mind when planning outdoor activities and check local updates before heading to the coast, per Hawaii News Now.
What To Do
Secure patio furniture and loose items, build in extra time for commutes that use exposed coastal and mountain routes, and avoid standing near the shoreline during high surf.
